MOGADISHU, Jan 1 (Reuters) - The Somali government offered on Monday to pardon any Islamist fighters who laid down arms after abandoning their final stronghold overnight. "The government is providing amnesty for them provided they hand over their weapons," Somali Prime Minister Ali Mohamed Gedi told a news conference in Mogadishu, saying the Islamist fighters had been "misled by international terrorists."
