ISMAILIA, Egypt, May 1 (Reuters) - A bus carrying Canadian and European tourists overturned and caught fire in Egypt's Sinai peninsula on Thursday, killing nine people and injuring 32, the state news agency MENA reported.

Two of the dead were Egyptian policemen but it had not been possible yet to determine the nationalities of the others because the bodies were so badly burned, Said Isa, head of ambulance services in south Sinai, was quoted as saying.

Among the injured were 17 Russians, four Egyptians, two Canadians, two Italians, two Romanians, one Ukrainian and one Briton, said MENA. The nationalities of the other three were not immediately known.

The bus was travelling from the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh to the capital Cairo when it overturned near Ras Sidr, about 50 km (30 miles) south of the city of Suez. (Reporting by Yusri Mohamed, Writing by Jonathan Wright, Editing by Ralph Gowling)
