MADRID, Aug 4 (Reuters) - Spanish police have arrested two Mexicans wanted by U.S. authorities for alleged drug smuggling and suspected of being bosses in Mexico's Ciudad Juarez narcotics cartel, the Interior Ministry said on Thursday. The two men were arrested in a central Madrid hotel in a major police operation, as part of an investigation which had already led to the seizure of $7 million and 250 kilos (551 lb) of cocaine in the United States, Spanish police said. One of the men, identified by Spanish authorities as 42-year-old Joel F.C., is suspected of organising the cartel's transportation of marijuana into the United States via the southern U.S. state of Texas, the Interior Ministry said. The other, 28-year-old Israel R.G., helped in the collection of revenue from the sale of drugs and its reintroduction into Mexico, the ministry said. Based in the grim border city of Ciudad Juarez, the cartel is a confederation of crime families who smuggle Colombian cocaine and Mexican marijuana to the United States. Ciudad Juarez and other cities along the U.S. border are the battleground for a growing turf war between powerful drug cartels, leaving more than 500 dead this year including several police officers.
