Israeli troops kill Palestinian-security sources

TULKARM, West Bank, Dec 4 (Reuters) - Israeli troops shot dead a Palestinian civilian on Monday during a raid in the West Bank to arrest a militant, who was wounded along with a teenage bystander in the incident, Palestinian security sources said.

The Palestinian security sources said Israeli forces raided a coffee shop in the city of Tulkarm where a member of al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, part of President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah faction, was sitting.

The soldiers shot the militant in the legs and then arrested him, the sources said.

During the raid, the troops shot and killed a civilian and wounded a 14-year-old boy in the head, the sources said.

An Israeli army spokeswoman said an Israeli force had encircled a building in Tulkarm and ordered Anan Yaish, whom she described as a terrorist wanted for involvement in planning suicide bombings in Israel, to come outside.

She said Yaish, armed with a pistol, and another Palestinian tried to flee.

The soldiers shouted at them to stop and fired warning shots in the air before shooting at the two men, seriously wounding Yaish and killing the other Palestinian, the spokeswoman said.

She said she knew of no other casualties.

The incident was likely to strain further a ceasefire that went into effect in the Gaza Strip on Nov. 26.

Under the truce, which does not apply to the occupied West Bank, Palestinian militant groups said they would halt rocket fire at Israel if the Israeli military stopped attacks against Palestinians.

Militants have carried out several rocket attacks from Gaza since the ceasefire began and Israeli forces have killed five Palestinian civilians and a militant in the West Bank.
