Dec. 6 (Reuters) - The world's population may be increasing at breakneck speed, but U.N data shows global greenhouse gas emissions are growing even faster.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) published a report last week issuing one of the strongest warnings yet of the lasting impact of climate change on living standards, and called for urgent collective action.

Below is a list of the 30 heaviest emitters of carbon dioxide (CO2), a greenhouse gas blamed for global warming, as of 2004. Data refer to CO2 emissions stemming from fossil fuel consumption, natural gas flaring, and cement production.

Also included are each country's global share in CO2 emissions and population between 1990, the base year used in the Kyoto Protocol, and 2004.

The final column shows how per capita CO2 emissions for each country have changed between 1990 and 2004.
