NAIROBI Nov, 6 (Reuters) - A passenger bus collided with a truck carrying petroleum products causing an explosion that killed 16 people and injured 33 others, police said on Tuesday. It was the latest high-fatality accident on Kenya's routinely deadly roads. "The bus burned out completely and this is complicating the work of the police who went to the scene," police spokesman Eric Kiraithe said. The crash occurred on the main highway about 170 km (106 miles) southeast of the capital Nairobi, in an area bounded by national parks. A recent spate of deadly accidents has prompted public calls for better traffic enforcement, which often goes by the wayside amid bribery by bus operators who cut corners and often run vehicles lacking basic safety equipment and skilled drivers. Many in the east African nation complain about the shoddy state of the roads, often pockmarked with potholes that can emerge overnight after heavy rains.
