ALGIERS, Sept 6 (Reuters) - A suicide bomber killed 11 people on Thursday when he detonated explosives in the Algerian town of Batna shortly before a scheduled visit by President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, residents said.

One of the residents said some of the dead and wounded were among a crowd of people waiting to see the president's arrival in the town 430 km (270 miles) southeast of the capital Algiers. The official APS news agency said Bouteflika later visited some of the wounded in a local hospital.
