GAZA, Nov 8 (Reuters) - An Israeli warplane on Wednesday bombed and destroyed the home of a leading Hamas militant in the Gaza Strip, in a raid that caused no injuries because occupants were warned in time to leave, Hamas and security sources said.

The attack on the Gaza City home of Ahmed el Jabari, second in command in Hamas' military wing, came a day after Hamas fired half a dozen rockets at Israel, including several that struck the southern Israeli city of Ashkelon, but caused no injury.

The Israeli army had no immediate comment.

Israeli troops had completed their largest military operation in Gaza in a year on Tuesday, after having killed 60 gunmen and civilians in a weeklong incursion in Beit Hanoun Israel said was aimed at stopping rocket attacks.

Soldiers also killed eight Palestinians in separate incidents in Gaza on Tuesday.

Israel had pulled its forces out of Gaza last year after a 38-year occupation but tensions have flared since Hamas rose to power after winning an election in January, and gunmen captured an Israeli soldier in a cross-border raid in June.

A Palestinian official accused Israel on Thursday of "state terrorism" in an attack in Gaza that killed 18 civilians and said apologies for such incidents were insincere and no longer acceptable.
