LILONGWE, March 8 (Reuters) - A small aircraft carrying eight Australian engineers crashed on Thursday in central Malawi, and there were no initial reports of survivors, police said.

Police spokesman Willie Mwaluka said the small airplane crashed at the main airport of Lilongwe, the country's capital, and had been headed for Karonga, where Australian uranium miner Paladin Resources Ltd. <PDN.AX> has a mining project.
