Dec 8 (Reuters) - Following are security developments in Iraq at 1300 GMT on Saturday.

* denotes new or updated items.

* BAGHDAD - U.S. soldiers killed 12 suspected al Qaeda fighters and detained 13 others during operations in central and northern Iraq, the U.S. military said.

* BAGHDAD - Two police commandos were wounded by a roadside bomb targeting their patrol in central Baghdad's Harthiya district, police said.

* NEAR KIRKUK - Gunmen posing as Iraqi soldiers killed a civilian southwest of Kirkuk, 250 km (255 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

BAIJI - At least eight people were killed and 40 wounded in an attack in a residential neighbourhood in Baiji, 180 km (110 miles) north of Baghdad, police said. A Reuters witness said it was a suicide car bomb attack.

MAHMUDIYA - A child was killed and two others wounded by two mortar bombs in the town of Mahmudiya, 30 km (20 miles) south of Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - Three bodies were found in different areas of Baghdad on Friday, police said.

SUWAYRA - Two bodies with gunshot wounds and showing signs of torture were recovered from the Tigris River in the town of Suwayra, 60 km (40 miles) south of Baghdad, police said.

NUMANIYA - An explosion killed Uday Hamid, a local leader of the movement of Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr, his wife and two children as they slept in their home in Numaniya, 120 km (75 miles) south of Baghdad, police said. The cause of the blast was not clear but it could have been a bomb, they said.
