PRISTINA, Serbia, Feb 10 (Reuters) - U.N. police in Kosovo fired tear gas at thousands of ethnic Albanian protesters trying to break through a police barricade in the capital Pristina on Saturday, a Reuters witness said.

Thousands of activists were demonstrating against a U.N. blueprint unveiled last week on the fate of Serbia's breakaway province, saying it fell short of full independence.

Serbia's newly elected parliament voted late Wednesday against a U.N. plan on the future of its breakaway province of Kosovo as a violation of the country's territorial integrity. U.N. envoy Martti Ahtisaari presented his plan to Belgrade and Pristina on February 2 after almost a year of fruitless negotiations between the two sides.
