DUBAI, May 10 (Reuters) - The self-styled Islamic State in Iraq, an al Qaeda-led militant group, posted a video showing the killing of nine abducted police and army officers, after an ultimatum it gave to the Iraqi government expired.

The footage posted on the Internet showed a militant shoot them in the head with a pistol as they kneeled in an open field. The group had demanded that the government surrender within 72 hours officers involved in the suspected rape of a Sunni Muslim woman, among other demands.

Documents lie on the desk of a defence lawyer during a trial that accuses U.S. soldier Mario Lozano of having killed an Italian intelligence officer while in Iraq, in Rome May 14, 2007. Lozano, who was not present at the trial, denies any wrongdoing after firing on Nicola Calipari's car that was escorting Giuliana Sgrena, a newly freed hostage, to Baghdad's airport in 2005. The trial was adjourned until July 10.
