BRUSSELS, July 10 (Reuters) - U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon appealed on Tuesday for a peaceful resolution to the siege of a mosque in Islamabad after Pakistani forces stormed the compound, killing up to 50 Islamist militants.

Ban told a news conference in Brussels he was very concerned about the standoff between Islamist students and government security forces.

"I am very much concerned about this ongoing situation in Pakistan and I hope sincerely that all these issues, that differences of opinion, positions, should be resolved through dialogue in peaceful means," the U.N. chief said.

"I sincerely appeal that this situation, this issue, should be resolved peacefully, reflecting the human rights aspect."
