Serbia says no troop plan for Kosovo - EU

BRUSSELS, Sept 10 (Reuters) - Serbia has told the European Commission that recent comments by a government official who said Belgrade could send troops into Kosovo were the result of a misunderstanding, a top European Union official said on Monday.

"I have received clarification and I have been reassured that there has been a misunderstanding and Serbia is by no means contemplating any use of force or military action," European Enlargement Commission Olli Rehn said.

He was speaking to reporters after meeting Serb Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic.

EU foreign ministers demanded on Friday that Serbia clarify remarks by a junior minister that Belgrade could send troops into Kosovo to thwart any Western recognition of the breakaway province's independence.
