NAIROBI, Aug 11 (Reuters) - Landslides have killed at least four people and destroyed several homes in western Kenya, a local television station said on Saturday.

NTV, quoting villagers at the scene in Kuvasali village, said the death toll could rise because a second landslide happened as rescuers tried to help people who survived the first.

It was not clear exactly when the landslides happened or what caused them in the remote region.

The National Disaster Operations Centre confirmed the mudslides, but gave no casualty figures.

"There was more than one mudslide. We cannot confirm the number of dead or injured, but there were definitely casualties," a spokesman for the Centre said.
