JERUSALEM, Feb 11 (Reuters) - Israel's cabinet decided on Sunday to continue excavations outside Jerusalem's most contentious religious site despite Arab anger over the project, a government official said.

"The government approved continuation of construction at the approach to the Mughrabi Gate within the proposed framework, at all possible speed," the official said, referring to excavations ahead of the planned building of a pedestrian bridge to the compound known to Muslims as al-Haram al-Sharif and to Jews as Temple Mount.
