Worldwide, only 3 in 10 people now have a connection to a public sewerage system. With the world's population expanding, a goal of improving sanitation by 2015 is slipping out of reach. In the run-up to the U.N.'s World Water Day on March 20, Reuters will run a series of text and video reports with pictures and graphics focusing on access to clean water, and technologies which could help reach a U.N. goal set in 2002 of halving the proportion of people with no access to sanitation by 2015, from 40 percent of humanity or 2.6 billion people.

The series will be slugged WATER/ and text and video reports will run from Monday March 17 through Wednesday March 19.
