GAZA, Dec 15 (Reuters) - Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh of Hamas on Friday urged Palestinians to unite in the wake of clashes between his forces and those loyal to rival President Mahmoud Abbas.

"I appeal to you to uphold national unity and to preserve Palestinian blood. Let's be a united people for the sake of liberating the land and the holy sites," Haniyeh said at the end of a speech to 100,000 cheering Hamas supporters in Gaza City.
