Abdul Basit Abu-Lifa, 17, was arrested with three other Danes near Copenhagen in October 2005 and accused under anti-terrorism legislation of trying to obtain weapons and explosives with the aim of carrying out an attack in Europe. As a minor, he faced a maximum sentence of eight years. Prosecutors did not disclose the location or date of the alleged attack, but have linked the four with men sentenced to jail last month in Bosnia for planning a suicide attack. A 12-person jury had found all four guilty of planning the attack but the three judges overturned the guilty verdicts on all defendants except Basit. "I have deep respect for these judges, as they overturned the jury's decision", said Basit's attorney, Anders Boelskifte. "I can only wish that they had done the same with my client." The court found Imad Ali Jaloud, 20, and Adnan Avdic, 21, guilty on lesser charges, including theft, but both were released as they had been under arrest for more than a year. Elias Ibn Hsain, 18, was acquitted. "I'm not disapointed," prosecutor Jorgen Jensen told reporters. "The jury convicted them and to me it means that it was right to start the case."
