GAZA, May 16 (Reuters) - Gunmen stormed the home of a top Fatah security chief in Gaza on Wednesday, killing one guard and wounding several others, sources in Fatah said.

The outbreak of factional fighting seemed to spell the breakdown of a second attempted truce inside a week. Also on Wednesday, mortars struck near President Mahmoud Abbas's compound in Gaza but caused no injuries.

Local residents attend a demonstration, calling for Israel's government to take action to stop the Kassam rocket attacks, in the southern city of Sderot May 20, 2007. Prime Minister Ehud Olmert threatened stronger Israeli military action in the Gaza Strip unless Hamas halted its rocket attacks on southern Israel. The sign at right reads: "Failures go home."
