KUWAIT, March 17 (Reuters) - Kuwait confirmed on Saturday a new case of the deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu in a chicken, raising to 54 the number of infected birds found this year, the health ministry said in a statement.

The Gulf Arab state has closed down poultry shops in residential areas and banned the import of live birds to prevent an outbreak.
