KISUMU, Kenya, Jan 17 (Reuters) - Riot police shot in the air and struck at least one man as they battled youths who set up blazing roadblocks and gathered in a second day of protests over President Mwai Kibaki's disputed election, witnesses said.

"My father was shot as he stood in front of our house. The police were shooting indiscriminately, targeting anyone on sight. My father was shot in the stomach," witness Alphonse Otieno said by phone from Kisumu's Kondele slum.

Outside Kondele, police fired in the air to disperse a crowd of youths gathering to protest, sending people scattering into alleys and behind buildings, a Reuters reporter said.

On the Nyalenda road, witnesses said some people had been shot earlier as police dispersed them, and blood could be seen on the pavement.

"We are doing civilian disobedience without looting," protester Joseph Orlale, 24, said.

"We will continue demonstrating until the government gives up and returns power back to the people." (Reporting by Guled Mohamed; Writing by Bryson Hull; Editing by Andrew Cawthorne)
