NAIROBI, Nov 17 (Reuters) - Environment ministers at U.N. climate talks agreed on Friday to a review in 2008 of the U.N.'s Kyoto Protocol that could pave the way to expand the scheme for fighting global warming beyond 2012.

Kenyan Environment Minister Kivutha Kibwana banged down his gavel on the final day of a Nov. 6-17 meeting of 165 nations after hearing no objections to a compromise plan between rich and poor nations.

Thirty-five industrial states bound by Kyoto's caps on greenhouse gases hope that a review of Kyoto might help widen the pact to outsiders after Kyoto's first period runs out in 2012.

Members of an Indonesian rescue team from the Marines carry equipment as they return during bad weather from a search for pieces and victims from a missing Indonesian plane in Tanjung Butu, outside the district of Barru, South Sulawesi January 13, 2007. Indonesian troops were combing beaches on Saturday for more debris from the missing airliner, an official leading the search said, hoping for more clues to piece together what happened to the jet.
