LJUBLJANA, Sept 19 (Reuters) - Two people died in floods and landslides caused by heavy rain which started in Slovenia on Tuesday while four are missing, the country's Administration for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief said on Wednesday.

"What we know now is that two are dead and four are missing but rescue teams have not yet made it to villages high in the hills because the roads are blocked so we do not know what happened there," spokesman Bojan Kuntaric told Reuters.

He said that conditions in the northwest and northeast parts of the country that were affected were now improving.

One of the dead was a volunteer firefighter who was killed by an electric shock while pumping water from a house.

The floods took place during a scheduled visit by the Slovenian goverment to the northwest. Prime Minister Janez Jansa witnessed the flooding at first hand instead of opening a new production hall at a large factory.

Slovenia's trade unions, the country's main students organisation and the national association of pensioners on Saturday staged the largest mass rally in the country since independence in 1991.
