(Recasts with second death)

NABLUS, West Bank, March 21 (Reuters) - Israeli soldiers killed two Palestinians on Wednesday in what the army said were separate gunbattles.

An Israeli military spokeswoman said troops patrolling the city of Nablus came under fire from a gunman and shot him.

But Palestinian hospital personnel said the dead man had not been armed. They said he was hit by Israeli fire when troops clashed with gunmen from Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah faction in the Askar refugee camp near Nablus.

Outside Ramallah, soldiers came under attack from two Palestinians, one who was armed with a rifle and the other with grenades, the army said. The troops shot the gunman dead.

Palestinians confirmed the fatality but had no immediate word on the dead man's identity.

Israeli forces had launched a raid in the area before dawn and arrested six wanted militants, the Palestinian security sources said.

Israel frequently launches raids in the area to arrest Palestinians suspected of involvement in attacks against the Jewish state.
