MOSCOW, Dec 21 (Reuters) - Russia hopes to clear soon all ecological problems of the Sakhalin-2 oil and gas project via a dialogue between the resources ministry and the project's shareholders, Resources Minister Yuri Trutnev said on Thursday.

"The shareholders have a choice - make the project the best in terms of environment protection," Trutnev told a joint meeting with Royal Dutch Shell's <RDSa.L> Chief Executive Jeroen Van der Veer.

The comment follows a decision by Shell and its Japanese partners to sell 50 percent plus one share in the $22 billion project to Russian gas monopoly Gazprom <GAZP.MM> for $7.45 billion.
