LISBON, Oct 22 (Reuters) - Three Britons and a German drowned off the coast of Portugal's Algarve tourist region on Monday while trying to rescue children who had been caught in a current, officials said.

Reis Agoas, commander of Portugal's southern maritime police unit, said the children were eventually saved in the incident near the town of Sagres.

He said the bodies of the four dead, aged between 40 and 50, had been recovered. No other details were immediately available.
