Cheney, Karzai meeting not held, to be rescheduled

BAGRAM, Afghanistan, Feb 26 (Reuters) - Talks between U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney and Afghan President Hamid Karzai scheduled to take place on Monday were not held because of bad weather and will be rescheduled, a spokeswoman for Cheney said. She did not say when the meeting would take place. The meeting with Karzai followed a stop in neighbouring Pakistan, where Cheney pressed President Pervez Musharraf for help in combatting a new Taliban offensive in Afghanistan and a resurgent al Qaeda. The Islamabad and Afghanistan visits were surprise stops on a trip that began in Asia and the southern Pacific, where Cheney visited staunch U.S. allies Japan and Australia.
