PARIS, July 27 (Reuters) - French police shot and seriously wounded a man at a Paris railway station on Friday after he opened fire on them during an identity check, police said. Officers shot the man in the abdomen and foot after he fired at a police foot patrol with a pistol that fires lead shot, police said. He was rushed to hospital after the incident at the mainline Gare du Nord train station in central Paris. During the campaign for French presidential elections earlier this year, youths clashed with police at the same station when they moved to arrest a fare-dodger who had assaulted transport staff who had demanded his ticket.
