SANAA, May 29, (Reuters) - Yemen detained eleven suspected al Qaeda militants, a state-run website said on Thursday.

The group was seized in the capital and have provided information linked to "terrorist acts carried out by al Qaeda, said the website, www.26sep.net, a mouthpiece for the Ministry of Defence.

Yemen joined the U.S. "war on terrorism" after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, but the ancestral home of Osama bin Laden is still viewed in the West as a haven for Islamist militants.

Dozens of militants have been jailed in Yemen for involvement in bombings of Western targets and clashes with authorities.

The ministry did not give further details, but said the deputy prime minister for security affairs would hold a news conference to reveal more details. (Reporting by John Irish; Editing by Matthew Jones)
