Syrian security forces kill four in Palestinian camp

DAMASCUS, Oct 9 (Reuters) - Syrian security forces killed four unidentified men on Thursday after chasing them in a Palestinian refugee camp, witnesses said. There was no comment from the government on the identity of the men, who tried to evade security in the crowded Yarmouk camp on the edge of Damascus. One witness said at least one of the dead was an Iranian Arab from a minority opposed to the clerical government in Tehran. Another source said the men were Iraqis. The Syrian government and the Islamic Republic have been allies for decades. The shooting took place less than two weeks after a car bomb targeted a major security complex in Damascus killing 17 people. Syria said the vehicle was driven by an Islamist suicide bomber and came from a neighbouring Arab country, which it did not name. (Reporting by Khaled Yacoub Oweis; Editing by Dominic Evans)
