RAMALLAH, West Bank, Aug 9 (Reuters) - Mahmoud Darwish, seen as the Palestinians' national poet, died in Texas on Saturday following heart surgery, a doctor at the Houston hospital where he was treated told al-Arabiya television.

"Mahmoud Darwish died 45 seconds ago," Abdel Aziz al-Shibani told the station by telephone.
