BEIRUT, June 7 (Reuters) - A blast was heard in a Christian area north of Beirut on Thursday night, witnesses said.

It was not immediately clear what caused the blast. But four explosions have rocked the Beirut area since May 20, when Lebanese troops and al Qaeda-inspired militants began battles at a Palestinian refugee camp in north Lebanon.

Fire is seen inside the Palestinian Nahr al-Bared refugee camp June 19, 2007 after Lebanon artillery and tank shelling. Palestinian mediators are hopeful a deal will be reached soon to end a month of fighting between Lebanese troops and al Qaeda-inspired Islamists entrenched in a refugee camp, political sources said.
