CHISINAU, Oct 15 (Reuters) - A man walked up to the general prosecutor's office in the Moldovan capital Chisinau on Thursday and threatened to blow himself up together with the prosecutor, but he later surrendered to police, justice officials said.

The man, clutching a black bag, appeared outside the building half an hour before the prosecutor was due to give a briefing about a grenade explosion on Wednesday night on the central square in which 40 people were hurt.

"He has surrendered," an official at the prosecutor's office said. The man was protesting over a criminal case brought against his son and there was no connection with the Wednesday night grenade explosion, the officials said. (Writing by Richard Balmforth; Editing by Louise Ireland)
