Dec 17 (Reuters) - A British solder was killed in Afghanistan on Wednesday after being shot during fighting in Helmand province, Britain's Ministry of Defence said in a statement.

There have been more than 130 British fatalities since the conflict began in late 2001 when Britain joined the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan. Here are figures for foreign military deaths as a result of violence or accidents in Afghanistan since 2001:
