Aug 20 (Reuters) - About 1,000 delegates will meet in Ghana from Thursday for a round of U.N. talks meant to end with agreement by the end of 2009 on a new U.N. treaty to combat climate change.

Following is a table showing the world's top 25 emitters, ranked according to 2000 emissions of greenhouse gases in millions of tonnes (mT) of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e).

Also listed below are the emissions in 1990 and 2006 of greenhouse gases by industrialised countries. The U.N.'s Kyoto Protocol requires rich nations to submit such data under obligations to cap greenhouse gases from 2008-12 compared to a 1990 baseline.

Analysts say China may have overtaken the United States in 2007 as the world's top carbon emitter. U.S. and European Union emissions of greenhouse gases fell in 2006.
