ISTANBUL, June 19 (Reuters) - A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck 85 miles (137 km) south of the Greek island of Rhodes in the Aegean Sea on Friday, the U.S. Geological Survey said, but local officials said no damage or casualties were reported.

The quake, about 19 miles (30 km) deep and reported at 1405 GMT, was felt along the coast in southern Turkey, the Istanbul-based Kandilli Observatory said.

Police stations in Rhodes, a popular tourist destination, said they did not feel the quake.

"It is not on the surface, it's deep in the sea," Greece's Geodynamic Institute said. (Writing by Ibon Villelabeitia)
