COPENHAGEN, Sept 24 (Reuters) - A Danish security officer has been confirmed dead after the bomb attack on the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad, the Danish security service said on Wednesday.

A suicide truck bomber struck at the hotel on Saturday, killing at least 53 people, wounding 266 and starting a fire that swept through the building in the Pakistani capital.

The Danish Security and Intelligence Service (PET) said in a statement their employee, 53-year-old Detective Inspector Karsten Krabbe, a security adviser to the Danish mission, had now been identified as being among those killed in the bombing.

"It is with deep sorrow that we have learnt with certainty that PET has lost a competent, trusted and highly appreciated officer," PET Director General Jakob Scharf said.

The Czech ambassador and at least three other foreigners were among the 53 people killed in the blast, Islamabad's worst bomb attack. (Reporting by Kim McLaughlin)
