ISLAMABAD, Jan 7 (Reuters) - Pakistan Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani dismissed his national security adviser Mehmood Ali Durrani on Wednesday following weeks of tension with India in the aftermath of an attack by militants on Mumbai.

A statement from the prime minister's office said Durrani had been sacked "for his irresponsible behaviour for not taking the prime minister and other stakeholders into confidence, and a lack of coordination on matters of national security."

Durrani, a retired general, became national security adviser to the nine-month-old civilian government having formerly served as ambassador to Washington when army chief Pervez Musharraf led the country. (Writing by Simon Cameron-Moore; Editing by Richard Balmforth)
