Gustav weakens to Category 1 hurricane

HOUSTON, Sept 1 (Reuters) - Gustav weakened to a Category 1 hurricane as it approached the Louisiana cities of New Iberia and Lafayette with maximum wind speeds of 90 mph (145 kmh), the U.S. National Hurricane Center said on Monday. (Reporting by Chris Baltimore)
