LOS ANGELES, Dec 5 (Reuters) - An actor on the hit TV drama "Prison Break" was behind the wheel and possibly under the influence of alcohol when his sport utility vehicle crashed in Beverly Hills, killing a 17-year-old boy and injuring two 15-year-old girls, police said on Tuesday.

Lane Garrison, who played jailbird David "Tweener" Apolskis on "Prison Break" before the character was killed off this season, has not been arrested or charged in the case. An investigation was still under way, a Beverly Hills police spokesman said.

When the accident was first reported, it was unclear who was driving the car when it crashed into a tree.

"Mr. Garrison displayed symptoms of alcohol intoxication and the investigation into Mr. Garrison's impairment is ongoing," Lt. Mitch McCann said. "In addition to noting Mr. Garrison's symptoms, investigators also removed alcohol containers from the SUV, which was registered to Mr. Garrison."

McCann said the probe could take six to eight weeks because in fatal car crashes investigators reconstruct the accident and examine the mechanical condition of the car. He declined to say if Garrison's blood alcohol level had been tested.

Police were also trying to determine what the 26-year-old actor was doing in the car with the three teens, whom he did not know prior to the night of the crash, McCann said.

"That certainly is odd. We're interested in that and we're looking into that," McCann said.

The crash on Saturday night killed 17-year-old Vahagn Setian, a student at Beverly Hills High School. Two 15-year-old girls who were riding in the Garrison's Land Rover were also injured, one of them seriously.

The girls have not been identified by authorities.

Garrison's attorney, Harland Braun, has said Garrison doesn't remember the accident, was not even sure he was the one driving and only had one drink that night. Braun said Garrison met the teens at a nearby supermarket and that they had invited him to a party.

Veiled women walk past a mosque under construction in the district of "Little Mogadishu", home to many Somali refugees in Addis Ababa, January 12, 2007. Food aid began reaching 6,000 Somalis on Friday trying to flee fighting in their homeland but blocked from entering Kenya, the United Nations said.
