Nursing home owners acquitted in Katrina deaths

ST. FRANCISVILLE, Louisiana, Sept 7 (Reuters) - The owners of a New Orleans-area nursing home where 35 elderly people drowned during Hurricane Katrina were found not guilty of all charges on Friday by a Louisiana jury. Salvador and Mabel Mangano faced 35 counts of negligent homicide and 24 counts of cruelty to the infirm, but the six-member jury acquitted them after about 3 1/2 hours of deliberations.
