MIAMI, Sept 12 (Reuters) - The United States faces a potentially catastrophic storm strike as Hurricane Ike bears down on Texas, threatening to inundate miles of coast with a wall of water, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said on Friday.

Chertoff said more than 100,000 residences could potentially be affected by flooding. (Reporting by Michael Christie, Editing by Patricia Zengerle)
