KANSAS CITY, Mo., June 17 (Reuters) - At least six people were killed and more than a dozen injured in a drag-racing stunt gone awry, officials said on Sunday. One of the victims, a 19-year-old woman, died Sunday afternoon in the Regional Medical Center at Memphis, and a 36-year-old woman remained in critical condition there, said hospital nursing spokesman Jackie Smartt. The incident occurred Saturday evening at a festival in Selmer, Tennessee, where thousands had gathered for a parade and car show aimed at raising money for a children's charity. Video of the accident shows the drag-racing car spinning its tires, speeding down a roadway lined with spectators and then skidding off the road into the crowd amid screams and a cloud of white smoke. The Commercial Appeal newspaper in Memphis said uneven pavement and the crowded road were factors being blamed for the crash. The driver of the dragster was transported to a hospital with unspecified injuries, according to the newspaper.
