WASHINGTON, Jan 18 (Reuters) - The FBI said on Friday it was investigating a bomb threat made to the World Bank's Washington headquarters and sniffer dogs had swept its buildings but not found any explosives.

A spokeswoman for the FBI Washington field office, Debbie Weierman, said the World Bank decided to close its headquarters on Friday as a precautionary measure.

The bank said on Thursday the threat was phoned in, but gave no details

Weierman said the FBI was leading the investigation with the help of the Secret Service and local police.

"We had canine bomb dogs sweep the building last evening and no devices were found. The investigation is continuing," Weierman said.

The World Bank, which fights global poverty, is a few minutes' walk from the White House and across the street from the International Monetary Fund. (Reporting by Lesley Wroughton; editing by Doina Chiacu)
