Advanced Medical says patient exposure chance remote

CHICAGO, Nov 21 (Reuters) - Advanced Medical Optics <EYE.N>, which earlier on Tuesday recalled one of its contact lens solution products in the United States because of possible bacterial contamination, said the chance that patients were exposed to affected products is "remote." The eye care company, on a conference call, said it first learned of reports of potential contamination at a manufacturing plant in China in September. That led to an investigation which revealed a water-borne organism had seeped into some bottles during the manufacturing process. The percent of non-sterile products on the affected production line is 0.3 percent, it said. "We believe the likelihood of users exposed to the non-sterile products is remote," Randy Meier, the company's chief financial officer, said. The company said it does not expect U.S. regulators to inspect its plant, though it has been working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration over the voluntary recall.
