Oct 22 (Reuters) - President George W. Bush asked Congress for $189.3 billion on Monday to fund the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan for another year.

-- The U.S. government allocated $45.3 billion in supplemental funding to help victims of hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma. Insurance companies are estimated to have paid another $45 billion in damages related to Katrina.

-- Sen. Hillary Clinton, the Democrat front-runner for the 2008 presidential nomination, recently proposed a health plan that would require all Americans to have insurance.
