Quake, 7.1, hits off Indonesia's Sumatra - USGS

WASHINGTON, Oct 24 (Reuters) - A magnitude 7.1 earthquake jolted the Indian Ocean off Indonesia's Sumatra island early on Thursday Indonesian time, the U.S. Geological Survey said. It said the quake, quite shallow at only 18.6 miles (30 km) deep, was centered in the Indian Ocean, 103 miles (166 km) west, southwest of Bengkulu in Sumatra.
