SEOUL, Jan 31 (Reuters) - The following is a summary of major South Korean newspapers on Thursday, prepared by Reuters in Seoul. Reuters has not checked the stories and does not guarantee their accuracy.

CHOSUN ILBO

- The city of Gunpo in Gyeonggi province, figure skater Kim Yu-na's hometown, said it is planning to build an ice skating arena by 2016 to commemorate her accomplishments in international championships.

- Daewoo Motor Sales Corp will establish a sales company for Japan's Mitsubishi Motors Corp <7211.T> in South Korea and start selling Mitsubishi cars from September, said CEO and president Lee Dong-ho.

HANKYOREH

- Samsung Heavy Industries <010140.KS> submitted a statement to Daejeon District Court saying it is not responsible for causing South Korea's worst oil spill.

MAEIL BUSINESS NEWSPAPER

- President-elect Lee Myung-bak will meet with IBM <IBM.N> chairman and CEO Samuel J. Palmisano when he visits South Korea on Feb. 11, according to a transitional team official.

- Hanjin Group, the parent group of Korean Air <003490.KS>, is considering buying a logistics company although it failed to buy Korea Express <000120.KS>, said Hanjin Group chairman Cho Yang-ho.
