SINGAPORE, July 19 (Reuters) - Singapore fined Royal Dutch Shell <RDSa.L> S$25,000 ($16,500) for safety lapses that led to the death of a worker at its offshore refinery in the city state, local radio said on Thursday.

Singapore radio 93.8 Live said Anglo-Dutch Shell pleaded guilty in court on Thursday, for failing to put in place safe work procedures at its offshore refinery in Singapore.

The 35-year-old worker died after suffering chemical burns on 17 percent of his body in an accident which took place in 2005, 93.8 Live said.

Singapore is home to a multi-billion dollar oil refining industry that hosts major oil firms including Shell and Exxon Mobil <XOM.N>.

Two Exxon workers in Singapore were killed in May after a fire broke out at its offshore refinery.
